My Book.

I've been working on my book, It's called simply "My Book" an autobiographer to help people understand what I have been through and why I needed to create Mightywheels to help all humans young or old with accessibility issues. We even help anyone who uses wheels because it's not the wheels we fix, it is the ground or surface areas on which we focus on getting repaired, and this benefits everyone.

I'm a do,er.

Why I don't go to ADFourm no more,
This is what I wanted to do for the ADForum I was trying to invite the West Edmonton Mall’s hotel manager over to our next meeting and (putting him/her on the hot seat) asking a number of questions, like how come 85% of hotel do not have up-to-date accessibility building codes like theirs and out of their 500 roomed hotel why are only 2 designated accessible? Most of the ADForum mouths dropped, making the manager feel uncomfortable is against the law. I turned it around commenting “Isn’t packing us handicapped people into little unsafe rooms against the law too?

Mightywheels was born.

I started Mightywheels to help people who use wheels, I'm an independent advocate that's always is looking for new member with new ideas to help people, Mightywheels.ca a wheel accessibility team, that will bring up and stand up for all people using wheels, accessibility for all. We'll bring attention to the poor surface area and report it to the right person, working for the city of Edmonton, so everyone can access their beautiful Edmonton. This free service can be used by anyone, parents pushing baby strollers, people using walking aids or wheelchairs like my self.
Our mission is to help bring much needed attention to difficulties people face every day. We want equal accessibility, so we can all access our beautiful city. I am hoping to raise awareness for people who struggle with accessibility each day. We'll appreciate any help that comes our way. I could not do this without my team of various helpers.

Mail.

I receive a number of emails every day, that ask me not to come to their business because their builds are too old, to be accessible I understand that. But, what does bug me is people not understanding what Mightywheels does for society. We are only middle men for people who use wheels, here are 3 examples.
#1 a parent who pushes their baby stroller down 69th avenue to meet a friend at SecondCup she/he notices the broken sidewalk to enter the business. That’s when you can email Mightywheels and complain. Mightywheels has many contacts through the city. We will contact the right people to get the sidewalk repaired.
#2 a person using a walking aid down 69th avenue to meet a friend at SecondCup she/he notices the broken sidewalk to enter the business. That’s when you can email Mightywheels and complain. Mightywheels has many contacts through the city. We will contact the right people to get the sidewalk repaired.
#3 a person using a wheelchair, wheeling down 69th avenue to meet a friend at SecondCup she/he notices the broken sidewalk to enter the business. That’s when you can email Mightywheels and complain. Mightywheels has many contacts through the city. We will contact the right people to get the sidewalk repaired.

When you first look at me, you see a guy in a chair; it's what you don't see that's really important.

When you first look at me, you see a guy in a chair; it's what you don't see that's really important. I have an over compensating part in me that wants to help all people in the world, so I created a blog that would help them and I call it Mightywheels.ca. We don't work on fixing wheels or anything like that; we focus on getting the surface areas we wheel on, repaired by the city. That helps all people - parents pushing baby strollers and people using walking aids or wheelchairs like myself. My blog was started as a little way to benefit everyone. I take mission to help others very seriously, and to continue what I'm doing I need to stay in shape, eat right, workout and do yoga stretches every day.

Google Maps Wants to Improve Its Wheelchair-Accessible Routes with Crowd sourced Data

Google is trying to improve the wheelchair-accessibility information in Google Maps, following a 125,000-signature-strong petition calling on it to do so.
On Wednesday, Google Maps software engineer Sasha Blair-Goldensohn—who was himself paralyzed by a falling tree branch eight years ago—wrote in a blog post that the mapping app does show wheelchair-accessible routes thanks to information submitted by volunteers, but "not everyone knows this tool exists, so we want to do more."
Blair-Goldensohn said Google wants the volunteers who contribute to Google Maps, known as Local Guides, to add more information for those with impaired mobility.
The volunteers can do this by going to the section of the app that asks the user questions about the place where they're currently located—the Android version of Google Maps even suggests nearby places that have insufficient information—and answer the questions about wheelchair access.
"If each of our tens of millions of Local Guides answers three of these questions every day for two weeks, we can gather nearly two billion answers to help people who rely on this information every day," Blair-Goldensohn wrote.
"You'll also be making life easier for families with strollers, seniors with walkers, or anyone making plans with a friend who has impaired mobility," he added.
A London woman named Belinda Bradley started an online petition last month calling on Google to make such a move. She was inspired by her own experience trying to negotiate the British capital with friends and family who have disabilities.
"We found that all routes provided by Google Maps demanded stairs, bumpy paths, small hills, foot bridges, crossings without slopes and many times there was no room on the pavement for the chair," she wrote. "It should be easy for everyone to get around, no matter who you are!"

Everyone wants their prince or princess charming to be perfect, but, wake up people, we all have flaws, ain't it what's on the inside that counts.

Look at my outsides, I use a wheelchair to get around, and if you look at my insides, you see that I create a website, to help all people who use wheels, called Mightywheels. 97 Street and 103 A Avenue, bus stop problem.

I work downtown, get off my bus on  103 A Avenue, I turn and go along 97 Street south.. I need to go to Jasper Avenue, I have to catch a bus at the Court house.. How on earth am I going to get the bus real fast...?  A person walking can simply just walk off the corner... cross the street and voila...at the bus stop... but NOT me...!!  I have to struggle to wheel my chair real fast to get to the bus... but I have to go a lot more distance to get to the stop. When I finally reach the stop... crap the bus past by....!!!

Now here I sit, another half an hour for the next bus... when I could have simply just went from corner to corner if there were some ramps at the start and made the first bus.  Someone needs to fix that please!!

Some peoples children,

I just did a compete front flip off of the damaged sidewalk, I didn't want that. two cars stopped, one of the drivers held my chair for me to get back in. The other yelled "where's your seat belt" excuse me but,my chair is less then 20lbs last thing I want is it following me, or worst yet it braking and sticking into me.

Parking lot rocks.

Today I was crossing the parking lot and at the edge of the parking lot, I saw these rocks. They are decorative rocks to go on the curb of the parking lot. Someone knocked them down onto the parking lot and I stopped to pick them up and put them back on the curb. While doing so, a teenager on a skateboard rolled by me and asked me what I was doing. I told him in Spruce Grove, one of my many ex-girlfriends, hit a rock in the parking lot with her baby stroller, almost losing her baby in the process. From that point on, I pick up rocks or anything that can hinder people getting by. After explaining that to the skateboarder kid, he scratched his head and looked at me with a puzzled expression, and said, "I should do that too because I have a fiancé with a child."

Profile Story.

This is my profile story.. I don't really get it.. But, I do in a way, no one wants their "prince charming" or "princess charming" to be in a wheelchair. We all have been programmed since birth to dream of our prince or princess have to be perfect.

To make-up for my many down falls a mission in my life is to help people who use wheels. Lots of people don’t think of it, but parents pushing baby strollers, people using walking devices (wheelchairs, walkers, etc...), and even the guy filling up our pop machines, use wheels and cause of seasonal erosion our cities infrastructure will not hold up, I hope this is something you’ll find interesting, because it’s something I deal with every day and hopefully we can chat about it, among other things! Like working out… I work-out every day (religiously) and It’s records automatically on my FitBit. One day soon I’ll record my work-out and post them on my you-tube channel.

The reason I'm on this website, I’m looking for a female friend who is open to going from a solid friendship to an understanding love; someone that can be there for me and I can be there for them in all that this crazy life has to offer! what do you think?

Apple stuff.

Thank you for allowing me to look into our accessibility support for iPhone

I have accessed our full accessibility options support page here: https://www.apple.com/ca/accessibility/iphone/physical-and-motor-skills/

However, I haven’t found a clear option to answer the phone without the swiping feature.

I did learn that swiping to answer the phone call appears when the phone is off or resting, but when you are using the phone or it’s open to any app, you will have an “accept” button or a “decline” button that you can just tap

I think providing the feedback to Apple Accessibility Support to add this “accept/decline” button feature as an accessibility option into a future iOS would be great!

I hope you are able to learn a few new features that will support you using the iPhone to its very best potential.

Just another day at the village,

I wheeled passed a lady with a stroller and shouted this bumps bad, by the time I said that she was only about half way down the sidewalk, she was talking on the phone and pushing the stroller, so, don't think she heard me warning her. I crossed the entrance to the parking lot and pulled on to the grass to watch her take on the bump. and what does she do but, puts her phone away with tears in her eyes all cursing and swearing, she breaks in to a gallop. Hitting the bump doing about same speed as the cars in parking lot were doing (approx 10-15 km) when she hit it the kid and stroller both got air time. She never stopped, never looked back. Guess it was a pretty up setting phone call..

Mightywheels are rolling..
Mightywheels are rolling..

Breaking barriers to help our friends with wheels, parents pushing baby strollers, people using walking aids or people in wheelchairs like my self.

Did you know Canada health says by the time a typical Canadian reaches 85 years old, 6-10 of us will have mobility issues or worst yet have to use a wheel-chair. Edmonton’s City interstruce like intersections, sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps are not in the best of conditions. I do not want to be confined indoor, so let’s think of every ones interests and invest some time in researching my blog.

I just looked for "Edmonton accessibility" on LinkedIn and found nothing. We need to get with it Edmonton!! Even Calgary has a page for there senior citizen accessibility.

Mightywheels hopes to help all people who use wheels, that could be your older sister or brother pushing a baby stroller, or a cousin who broke his leg playing ice hockey, maybe it was your grandfather acting all young slipping on your slip'n slide.

My crash.

Jamie the B.M.X.er that called me earlier had an argument with me, about something dumb, he said the bicycle shop was open, but I swore that it was closed. We nattered back and forth about that for a good ten minutes, until I said "put your money where your mouth is" and I bet him five bucks that I was right. That sort of shut him up for a bit, but he liked to argue and said "lets go down there and see."

I was hoping it wouldnt take long because I was invited to the girl next door's house at 5:30. I was so excited because she and I were finally going to watch some television alone. I thought I could speed up our bet by calling the shop to find out if they were open or closed, but nobody answered the phone. I was convinced that they were closed. Not telling Jamie that I called, I rode over to his place to pick him up. I told him if the store is closed we would turn around and come right back; he agreed. I also told him that I was going to Cindy's house and how I didnt want anything to mess it up: she hardly ever had the house to herself. Someone was always there. Jamie said, "Let’s go then”.

He made it there in a land speed record time just to find the shop was closed for the evening. By the time I made it there, I laughed and laughed at him. He got off his bike for a little rest, and he leaned his bike up against the store front window to wipe his sweaty hands off. Because I listened to what Cindy said and didnt ride like I was on fire, I didn't need to rest. Hope you heard that Cindy, I listened.

As we were preparing to ride back the train went by a block away. It must have sent vibrations out because it shook Jamie's bike so hard that the store front window shattered from the metal handlebar being against the window. We didn't have time to think about what to do, because out of nowhere the shop owner pulled up in his van.  Jamie hopped on his bike pointing downhill, I was pointing up towards my Mom's work, which was two blocks away.

The van roared its engine 2-3 times, as if he was trying to scare us away. He didn't try talking to us or anything. Jamie took off like a rocket downhill. Without thinking, I just took off too, taking on the hill upwards. My adrenaline was pumping so hard that I could feel it throbbing in my ears.  My 185mm crank set and my enlarged front sprocket allowed me to manual ¾ up the hill. The van chose to follow me.

I tried to use my crazy maneuvering techniques to escape that van. It was getting too tough to get up that hill, so I decided to turn around and go down the hill. As I was peddling down the steep hill, with gravity on my side, I found myself peddling for my life. I franticly made a wrong turn and found myself going up another steep hill. By this time, I was getting tired and my legs wouldnt move as fast as I wanted them to. Suddenly, my rear wheel was nudged. I couldn't believe that the fool could keep up with my extreme peddling and power turns. By the time those thoughts were finished running though my head, he hit my back bike tire again. I was catapulted into the back of a large parked car, hitting the bumper and the back of the car with my head very hard.

All I could see was a really bright light, it engulfed everything. I couldn't move it felt like I was not even in my own body. I could hear the van stopping and him getting out. I could sense him around me. Then it felt like I was flying. He rolled me over to take my wallet, to find out who I was, then he was gone; he probably went to report the situation and just let the ambulance take care of the clean-up. All of this seemed like it took forever, but it was only a matter of seconds. Still to this day, I never got my wallet back. It baffles me as to why he felt the need to steal my wallet. Maybe he was a serial killer and wanted a trophy to remember this event.

I felt so alone; it seemed like it took forever for the ambulance to get there. I vaguely remember the ambulance drivers picking up my limp body from the cold cement. That night the Nanaimo hospital was full and staff redirected me to a hospital in Victoria that was also better equipped to handle my injury. My Mom said it was a little blessing in disguise. The hospital is farther but Im sure I could handle the drive. The drivers sounded pretty cool, laughing with each other saying that they hit 210 coming down off the hill. We were going so fast it felt like we were airborne. If I had been more conscious, I could have enjoyed the ride much better.

2 annual.

I would like to invite you guys to come out and learn about Mightywheels.  We are a community run group that advocate for people who use wheels including parents pushing baby strollers, people using walking devises, and people using wheelchairs. Its not the actual devise we use it's the city intersections, sidewalks, ramps, and other infrastructures within the city that make it difficult for all people who use wheels to get around.   Mightywheels will be presenting at the annual meeting on July 10 between 330-5pm at the Lois Hole pubic library.  Mightywheels will be sharing some new ideas that we have come up with as well as taking in other ideas from the group.  We know accessibility is a challenge for most/all people who use wheels within the city.  We at Mightywheels are trying to get the city to solve this issue with positive outlooks and through information gatherings, such as this meeting that is coming up.

I really hope you guys are able to come and listen/learn all about Mightywheels and what we do for all people who use wheels. Please feel free to check out our blog for more information as well.  You can locate our blog at mightywheels.ca

Mighty.

I'm in a wheelchair cause I can't really walk, but I have noticed that people like me who use wheels, really need some to stand up for us and fight for us. I'm only one person, so far, I have started a blog to help all people who use wheels. I don't want any of my wheeled friends to have to go though what I have, the same rights as should apply to everyone, but they don't. People who use wheels need to band-together like the parents pushing baby strollers, people using walking aids or people using wheelchairs. We all use wheels, we all need better intersections, sidewalks and sidewalks ramps to use in our great city, I know that the majority will win in any dispute. So come join the winning team.

I was very honored.

I just reserved this message from a good friend who knew me even before my accident and always said I'd be a somebody. You are absolutely one amazing human being Tim. You have dedicated years of your life for this cause and to see you make it to the Alberta parliament is absolutely outstanding. There are thousands and thousands of people in Alberta of that are going to be extremely grateful for all the hard work that you have done for them And most of them will never know why, but that doesn't matter because I know that's not why you're doing this is for fame or to be some kind of hero, you genuinely care and are concerned about the well-being of others But in my box that makes you an "Absolute Hero" In my books LOL You have taken this matter to the absolute highest level you possibly can in your province. I guess now in the future you can start spreading it all across Canada.

Accessibility Map

Long ago in the 80's, In Nananimo b.c. I was a big time Adrenalin junkie, who rode a little titanium BMX bicycle. My friends and I raced around the city calling ourselves "The Mightywheels Team". We all had little kid dreams of moving to Vancouver and being bicycle couriers. That never happened, I got in my accident and the team fell apart. Later on in my life, when I recovered from my injury, I was placed in a titanium wheelchair and saw that the accessibility for a person who used wheels was very poor in my city. I wanted to do something so I started the Mightywheels team back up. I reused the name because of the titanium. When I lived in Kamloops B.C, I made a mission to cross this real high tech bridge that was new but was not accessible for people who used wheels. I had a friend carry my chair across the other side. I crossed the bridge proving that people who used wheels would need to safely cross the bridge. The idea of Mightywheels bloomed from there. In time I moved to Edmonton where I officially formed the Mightywheels.ca wheel accessibility team, I started a blog to spread the word. Later a friend taught me how to link my blog to Facebook, Twitter and Tumbler to get better exposure. I started a Pinterest page connected to my blog showing good and bad surface areas to plan out a map to safely navigate our city. I'm sure in the future my blog will have a virtual map of the whole city that speaks to you and tells you where the bad surface areas are with added pictures and I like to have the map updated every week.

My new plain,

Getting Mightywheels.ca introduced to Edmonton's Legislature is a step towards hook-up with AccessNow and having the contacts and manpower to start a project like AccessNow's mapping, I want to map the whole city of Edmonton.

McGyver Techniques

Since the dawn of my time, I've always wanted to be a Hero. When I could walk, my friends and I had plans to enlist in the army;  as soon as I got hurt, that idea was no longer feasible. Using my McGyver techniques, I created a wheel accessibility team to help everyone. I have been working on that for a long time and now 13 years after I started my blog, I have been invited to present 'Mightywheels.ca' to the Alberta legislature.

Legislature.

The idea for this blog is also to make our city intersections, sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps safer. Mightywheels.ca has posted X amount of traffic\parking violations. I took all the posts to an police officer I knew and he told with tears in his eyes that all those pictures would not hold up in court, he said I'd need a bi-law like photo radar has.
So I'm asking the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Legislature to please team up with Mightywheels.ca and grant me the abilities to make our city more accessible.

Timming.

This an old problem, coming to the surface again. I'd like to have City of Edmonton re-evaluate the timming on their Intersection crossing lights.
and you bet, I'll be bringing that up with the Legislature.

Sad but true.

In a normal apartment why is the handicapped elevator the elevator that able bodied people use to move their belongings. Now I said it and put it in writing doesn't it sound like able bodied people treat people who use wheels like a second classed person?

We'll stand up for you.

I understand that the world may not be quit ready for what Mightywheels.ca is doing.
Today I physical went over to Callingwood Market Pace Mall because I heard that the center corp workers were there to repair the mall and I wanted to personally thank them for the second repairing and repainting of an entry ramp for people who use wheels.
When I returned home, 2 u-haul moving trucks were in the front of the building. One blocking the officially marked handy capped ramp and the other truck blocking from unloading, now there is a unloading zone at the back of the building able to accompany 2 vehicles but, it was empty.
I went into the Boardwalk Office to complain about the trucks, I was first told "Oh its alright they'll move soon" the trucks didn't move. I complained again. this time the lady from the front desk said get someone to assist me. I called 311 the man I was talking to knew who I was, we talked before when Mightywheels.ca got the city to build the crosswalk with lights on 69th ave. He said put your on speaker, because he wanted to hear if they were treating me right with this complaint.

We stand up for everyone who uses wheels, parents pushing baby strollers, people using walking aids or people in wheelchairs like myself, we know Edmonton is 4-5 years behind in our accessibility problems So, with the power of myself and my various helpers, we bring attention to problem area's in your community, so everyone can access this beautiful city. This free service can be used by anyone. Our mission is to help bring much needed attention to difficulties people face every day. We want equal accessibility, so we can all access our beautiful city. I am hoping to raise awareness for the struggles that people with wheels face every day. I to use wheels to get around in Edmonton, and I understand that our city is not the enemy to the people who use wheels, but age of the land and seasonal erosion is… Why won’t other people understand that, because I feel if we the people worked with our city better more would get done to better comfort the cities people.
What I’m ever so nicely asking for is to allow my MLA Lorne Dach to take the 2min. needed to explain to the legislature on May the 16th at 1:00 all about Mightywheels the accessibility team.

Thank you very much, I really hope writing this letter helps, because this accessibility problem could turn into a problem you and people must face. (Personally)

Sign this.

Let's be prepared.
The inevitable is that we all will age, "Canada Health" says by the time the typical Canadian reaches 85 years old, 6-10 of us will have mobility issues or have to use a wheelchair. Edmonton’s City intersections, sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps are not in the best of conditions. I do not want to be confined indoor so lets think of every ones interests and sign this petition to get Edmonton's intersections, sidewalks and sidewalk ramps in better condition.

Question for Edmontonian's

Today I went to the north end of Edmonton to have a coffee with my cousin and every handy-capped parking stall, I saw over there was either taken by someone who had the proper handy-capped parking plaque or the stall was empty.

Why may I ask do the people in the neighborhood I live in all ways brake the law and park in handy-capped stalls or in the apartments I live in, they block the ramp and or use the front of the buildings handy-capped ramp as a moving dolly ramp when the load zone is at the back of the building?

New idea's.

Just like I was telling Brianna, when one door closes another door opens. Yes, Edmonton got their new 311 app working and that makes it so, much easier to report someone parking where they shouldn't.
Good accessibility is not only needed in our streets. Ever been to the dentist or doctor in a wheelchair. Today when I was out eating lunch I was asked that question and that gave me new ideas ðŸ’¡

311 app.

Edmonton has their 311 app up and running now, its slowed my job
down some. I still will eventuate your place of business for free just like I did for The callingwood Tea Place https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXl5JFC6Z1Y
and/or I'll be happy to help you with vacation accessibility planning.
Mightywheels.ca is still alive to help all people who use wheels.
so, please if you need help learning to use the app, just ask.

Black Ford

Look it's that FORD again..
I think I have 4 other pictures of the same truck blocking the handi-capped ramp on different times.

Forward steps.

To make forward steps in my Mightywheels.ca project, I must first learn new things with the Edmonton's Accessibility Advisory Committee. I will be putting my Mightywheels.ca project off to the side, I won't be closing it, I'll just keep up with its emails and pictures I just won't start any new projects, i will return... Edmonton would fall apart with out people speaking up for people with accessibility issues.

Email.

I received an email, wanting me to charge the milk company's for making their plastic (screw on) milk container lids too small for challenged people to open, now even I have notice the lids have gotten smaller, cheaper to make, for some people with dexterity issues I see that being a problem.
I can only suggest asking your local bottle depot if they have any older lids, I'm sure if you microwave the old, used lids in a coffee mug of water they will be clean enough, just a suggestion.

I have a dream...

Hi Tim, I was talking with Jerry and we are both willing to photograph you in the next couple of weeks and feature you in our pages. Me for my scars project and Jerry in his Humans of Edmonton experience page. They would be different stories so you can reach a different audience. Let me know what you think and what your schedule is.
I have been waiting for this email to hopefully start taking more steps forward in my Quest to improve the city of Edmonton’s accessibility problems. Starting in his home community West Edmonton.
