Accessibility Video's.

I really want to find the right person or persons to help me film, make accessibility video's to post and share on my blog. All I need for this first step is a camera person and someone who could help me with posting it on my blog. I even think this would be good to help make more people a where of the troubles people who use wheels face all the time. I'm out on the streets everyday wheeling, I know for a fact.. most if not all wheeling surface areas have some type of weathered problems. I would really like to help.. cause one day after I finish building up Mightywheels, I plan to run for MLA donating every pay check to Mightywheels so, we can fix Edmonton's accessibility problems.

Let me do it.

The sidewalk keeps wanting me to cross the road, I don't want to cross here and there is no other way.

Speed bumps.

Mightywheels feels the legal drainage space in between speed bump should be 3 to 4 inches bigger to accommodate for people who use wheels. So they do not have climb over the speed bump.

The Meeting.

Tim met Robert Lipka from the city of Edmonton at second cup in Callingwood. Prior to our meeting Robert walked around the area briefly to look at the sidewalks and ramps, and took pictures. Robert and I discussed speed bumps and the small space in between that is inaccessible, the lack of sidewalks, and broken sidewalks. We  talked about the incomplete sidewalk in my complex. Other issues included sidewalk cleaning in the winter and sidewalk corners and what would be the best way to repair them. Robert worked on accessibility issues in New Zealand. He showed pictures of areas of the city and asked me what my thoughts were. Our discussion led to the topic of Universal design. Universal design ensures all have accessibility to buildings etc. They will have a UD working group. I will be one of the external additions.

Why, not..

What do you think?
When a handy capped person get their drink, the till worker usually double cups their cup, with a contest cup and a old cup. Why wouldn’t it be two contest cups. Don’t people like us deserve two chances to win, I’m pretty sure it won’t brake Mc Horton’s.

A table

I'd like to start up a Mightywheels table at the Callingwood market place, to help inform the local people about the wheel accessibility problems we all face every day. Because I know I'm the only one, there is 20 people in my apartment.  To make my idea a succeed, I'll need a volunteer to help me at my table. Could you help me Start, and organize this idea I have. don't worry too much the Callingwood farmers market don't start till May.

Fitbit news

Yesterday I went to "Sports-Tec" to find out more about my "Fitbit". I learned that I need to up-grade to the "charge", so I can get everything I want out of the device.

Fitbit

Today I got my Mom's Fitbit and changed it up, just working on the computer, making dinner and cleaning up my place. I put on over 1000 steps or in my case wheel motions and I'm sure this Fitbit will assist my self and the Mightywheels team.

Great idea.

I hear that Justine Bieber paid Morgan Freeman to narrate his "Love Yourself" poem. I would like to find a Canadian narrator to narrate my "redemption short story".
My first step to get my short story narrate, on Monday I will be talking with Southgate Chapters asking "Kelly Ann Laxer" what my next step should be.

Always be nice, Or..

Oneday, I was chatting with my friend Sam, and he expressed his bewilderment over the lack of concern people had for what myself, and Mightywheels, are trying to do for people who use wheels. People who can walk take walking completely for granted! Sam works as an apprentice Bio-Science Technician, and he uses wheels, too. Sam’s brother, Rob, joined in on the conversation, and shared his unconventional, even drastic, view, on what he thought would be the necessary measure to drive this point home. Rob wondered aloud what would happen if he were to inject victims that take walking for granted with an inject-able paralytic agent. Rob had a lot of time to think while in prison, and in his somewhat warped mind, he thought he could affect a positive change in thinking. Nearing Rob’s release date, he asked Sam to build the device. Though reluctant at first, Sam eventually gave into Rob’s insistence, and realized that this, if nothing else, could raise awareness to the problems that those who use wheels face. At first Rob injected fellow inmates; those that had committed more heinous crimes. In a way, Rob felt this was a sort of redemption for his own transgressions. His window of opportunity presented itself during the monthly fire drill. The inmates were marched out of their cells, single file, and he found himself behind James Gabrattino, an inmate sentenced to life. Gabrattino was one bad dude, and most other inmates did not want to associate with him. As they were returning to their cells, Rob twisted exiting his cell, into the hall and poked James with the device. The needle went deep into his thigh. Almost instantly, James started complaining, “What the hell is going on with my toes? They’re burning, so bad I want to kill someone.. A voice in Jame’s head says, you shouldn’t have been so mean to that guy in the wheelchair.

Accessibility for you and me..

The mission of Mightywheels is to help everyone who uses non-motorized wheels, with the exception of handy-capped motorized scooters.
When I first started using my wheels, I noticed many poor surfaces areas and wanted to create an internet blog to help let other people who use wheels know about them. This can be anyone from parents pushing baby strollers, the elderly with their walking devices, or people like me in wheelchairs.
I went back to school to learn how to create a team of people that could help, called Mightywheels. The team objective is to bring attention to the things the people who use wheels feel isn't right. Some examples are poor surfaces areas in city intersections, poor city sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, non-accessible places of business, and other problems people who use wheels face everyday.
If you don't use wheels, you may have not noticed that the last business you entered may have not had a button to open the door for you. You probably opened the door yourself and didn't even notice. Someone who uses wheels can struggle to enter this business independently.
It's Mightwheels' mission to work with a business to try and find ways to make them more wheel friendly for all, that way all customers will be able to access them easier and all businesses want more customers.
We want equal accessibility, so we can all access our great city! Become part of this great project and let's make Edmonton an even more progressive city than it already is!
